Becky Peurifoy Stearns, of North Augusta, South Carolina, died on August 23, 2023.  She was married to Junius S. “Buck” Stearns III for 58 years. She is survived by her husband and two sons, David and John, and a daughter, Laura.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Stearns Tuley, and two sisters, Karen and Mary Jane.  She was predeceased by her parents, Pat and Laura Peurifoy, and a brother, Scotty. Becky and Buck have five grandchildren.

At the time of her death, Becky was writing a book about American nurses trapped in the Philippines after the fall of Corregidor during World War II. She died from acute sepsis following gastric bypass revision surgery on March 29th.  She had been bedridden and hospitalized since May 6th.

There was no formal funeral service because she had asked to be cremated and her ashes scattered somewhere along the Carolina coast, which she loved.
