Janice Louise Atkinson Rushin, age 74, of Matthews, NC, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021.
She was born in Pittsfield, Mass, on February 24, 1947. Janice graduated from Presbyterian School of Nursing on August 23, 1968. She was married to Henry Jack Rushin (Jack) on August 25, 1968.
Janice had a career in Nursing which spanned decades of service. She started in the Hospital as a staff nurse, then worked in the ICU. She took time off for about 16 years to be a mother to her 3 children. Then she worked in Home Care, and finally a clinic for training Residents. After she retired, she volunteered in a local Free Medical Clinic.
She was a loving mother who always put her family above herself. Jack and Janice’s marriage of 53 years was a beautiful expression of committed love, forgiveness and laughter.
Janice had a passion for the Lord and poured her heart and soul into the Faith community in the Charlotte area. She was well known in many churches and organizations. She poured out the fruits of the spirit on anyone who knew her as a friend or acquaintance. She led multiple women’s bible study groups in the Matthews and Mint Hill area. She was a much-loved presence among her circle of friends and family.
Janice is survived by her husband Jack; her children and their spouses, Jade (Bart), Andrew (Kristen), and Emily (Ken); her grandchildren, Timothy Rushin, Micah Rushin, Joshua Vawter, and Elijah Vawter; her sisters, Chris Jarvis (Dave), Laura Gulledge (Perry); sister-in-law, Loretta Atkinson (Reggie); and her brothers, Todd Atkinson, Alex Atkinson, and Reggie Atkinson.
A service was held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 8300 Providence Road in Charlotte. An interment service was held in Hillside Memorial Park in Laurinburg,
