Mr. James “Jim” Thomas Blue, Jr., age 79 of Laurinburg passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Jim was born December 19, 1946 in Pinehurst, North Carolina, son of the late James Thomas Blue, Margaret Haire Brown and lovingly raised by his step father, the late James Brown. He was a Vietnam War Veteran who proudly served our country in the United States Army. Following his military service, Jim began his career as a purchasing agent working many years with Scotland Memorial Hospital and later retiring from St. Andrews University.
Jim was a nature lover and had a special love for all types of animals and a supporter of the Humane Society. He was heavily involved with the John Blue Cotton Festival and the overall care of the John Blue House and grounds. He was a handy man who loved working with his hands. He enjoyed traveling, driving his golf cart and was an admirer of classic cars. Above all, Jim loved his family and cherished time shared with each of them, especially his grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Rebecca Anne Bass Blue in 2023.
Jim is survived by his son, James “Jimmy” Thomas Blue III and wife, Blaire of Burlington, NC; grandchildren, Lyda Blue and Iver Blue; brother, Rick Brown of Kernersville, NC; sister, Lynn Averitt and husband, Ronnie of Little River, SC; special nieces and nephews, Miranda Bass, Anderson Bass, Lauren Averitt McKenzie (Patrick), Allison Averitt Smith (Braden), Alyssa Brown Moseley (Cord), Alex Brown; and his special friend and companion, Diann Beane of Laurinburg.
The Celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel followed by burial with military honors in Hillside Memorial Park. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations are requested to be given to the Humane Society of Scotland County, 1401 West Boulevard, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
