Leslie Glendon Ingram, Jr., (Glen) passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at age 78. He was the eldest son of Leslie Glendon Ingram and Alice Demske Ingram (deceased) of Southern Pines NC.

Glen was an adoring husband, loving brother and uncle, a professional jazz saxophonist, a teacher, an amazing performer in many bands, and a humble, kind human being. He built his life around music, doing what he loved without compromise.

Glen was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he was one of 40 selected for the 291st Army band. After serving in the Army, he attended and taught at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 1968, Glen played with the cross over Pop/R&B band the O’Kaysions when they recorded the Top Ten hit “I’m a Girl Watcher."

Glen was a great writer and storyteller. He could entertain on any subject by injecting a relevant, never-before-heard story (like meeting Stan Getz, a saxophonist who greatly influenced Glen’s style). Or he could chat about nothing at all and still be interesting. He loved to play Scrabble and usually won any challenge. Glen’s siblings will miss connecting with him on his treasured Sunday afternoon calls. Glen also greatly enjoyed his network of musician friends and appreciated spending time with them, jamming or playing gigs together. His music touched people more than he realized.

Glen leaves behind his loving spouse, Ginny; sisters, Heide Ingram of Winston-Salem and Lynn Ingram Boggs (James Michael Boggs) of High Point; and brother, David Ingram (Bonnie McManus) of Chapel Hill. He cherished his nieces and nephews, Richard P. Sanders, Jr. (Stephanie), Christina Lynn Coggin (Michael), Caroline Mortensen (Wait), Jennings Ingram, and Yuma Kobayashi, as well as his grand nieces and nephews: Addison and Colton Sanders, and Cooper and Ellis Coggin.

A celebration of life will be held on a future date at the convenience of his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Saving Grace Animals for Adoption NC or Safe Haven for Cats.

The family wishes to thank the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit doctors and nurses at Duke University Hospital for their compassionate care of Glen and kindness to his family.
