Jerry was a good friend in high school, and played golf together in each of the last two class reunions. He had a quick wit and was very smart. We were in Mrs. McLoud's latin class together. In the sprit of latin, I called Jerry Parvus (Small) and he called me Magnus (large). This continued into and during adulthood. I will miss my friend.

Anytime I hear of our LHS classmate's passing, I feel I have lost an important member of my early-year's family. My prayers are with you and your family.. You made a difference in all who knew you. Rest in peace.

Jerry was always such an excellent person. I remember how very poor his family was, especially after his dad died, and how few advantages he was given in life; yet he overcame poverty and low expectations to succeed and triumph -- and always with such characteristic modesty and cheer. He was my friend since the fourth grade. I'm terribly sad today.

I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone with unkind things to say about Jerry. He was a kind and humble human being. I'm sure the students he taught over the years are feeling blessed that he was in their lives. My heart goes out to Maggie and his family. May God give you His peace....Larry Morgan

We lost a good friend this weekend. I remember Jerry being kind and considerate to everyone. From 8th grade thru high school and during my early years at Pembroke, Jerry was a good friend. After he moved to Shalotte, I would see Jerry from time to time at the Holden Beach Mart where he worked during his summer breaks from teaching. He would always in a good way mention my weight gain. He would tell me I had finally filled out. His way of telling me I was getting too heavy. RIP my old friend.

Before any more of us gone, I want to say that I have special memories of all of you and I will always cherish those memories. I was too late for several, just recently Jerry Small. What a good friend and I regreat I didn't ever get the chance to tell him of my cherished memories of playing sports at LHS with him.

I cannot in all honesty say that Jerry was a close friend, but I am privileged to call him a good friend. I never saw him without a smile on his face and a friendly word from his lips. I remember Jerry as being somewhat modest and self-effacing, but I also recall thinking even back then that there was more to Jerry than met the eye. Unfortunately, we lost touch after graduation, as so often happens, and I didn't see him again until one of our "recent" reunions (2005?). We didn't get to spend a lot of time together to catch up and, as one would expect from Jerry, he didn't spend time talking about his professional or personal accomplishments. From his obituary, it seems that he was dedicated to education and his family and I know his students, colleagues and family will miss him terribly. God speed, my friend.

I REMEMBER JERRY FROM CENTRAL SCHOOL (ESP MRS GODFREY'S 6TH GRADE CLASS WHERE HE EXPRESSED INTEREST IN HISTORY (WHICH UNFORTUNATELY BORED ME THEN). I REMEMBER JERRY GROWING UP IN NORTH LAURINBURG. I AM PROUD TO CALL JERRY A SPECIAL FRIEND! WE WERE WHAT WE WERE AND WE ARE WHAT WE ARE! (RIGHT JERRY?) GOD IS BLESSING YOU NOW!
